More Than Marco Polo: 5 Great Games to Play in the Pool
Jun 27, 2011
Need some fun and interesting games to play in the pool this summer? Here are a few of our favorites!
Spin the Pool
Space out all participating swimmers evenly around the edge of the pool, and then get everyone to swim or walk quickly in the same direction. Eventually, this action will build up enough current for everyone to be carried along without having to swim.
Seal Relay
Form teams to push any floating object (beach balls, pool snakes) from one side of the pool to the other, using only their noses. Team members each take a turn to move the object a single lap.
Scuba Hunt
Fill plastic balls or Easter eggs with enough coins or pebbles to make sure they sink. Then have your players close their eyes while you drop the "treasures" around the pool. On your signal, the young scuba divers can open their eyes and begin collecting the objects. Younger swimmers can work in teams to keep the playing field even. Whoever collects the most treasures wins.
Follow the Otter
First, choose someone to be the leader. The leader performs a silly walk or a goofy impression, and then jumps or dives into the pool. Each player must then follow suit, doing their best to copy the leader. Anyone who misses a part gets their first (or next) letter as they spell out O-T-T-E-R. Repeat until someone ends up with O-T-T-E-R and then play again.
Ice-Capades
Add some food coloring to water and fill up ice cube trays to create colored ice cubes. Toss them into the pool and let the players attempt to retrieve as many as possible.
